Bus to Kaliningrad
The useful bus is the one from Gdańsk, several times a day, including from the airport. Warsaw, Berlin and Riga take much longer and run less often. There is no direct bus from Vilnius. Below are the counters that are actually selling tickets, and what to expect when you arrive.
Via Gdańsk
Gdańsk City Center & Airport
Buses leave several times a day from the central bus station (Gdańsk Dworzec Autobusowy). PKS Gdańsk also runs some departures from the terminal at Gdańsk Airport (GDN). The timetable puts the ride at about 3.5 to 4.5 hours via Grzechotki (PL) / Mamonovo (RU). Border waiting time comes on top. Official fare is 195 PLN from the bus station and 205 PLN from the airport, about €45.
Gdańsk Główny is right next to the bus station, so the change from train to bus is short. This is the straightforward overland route. Around holidays, book a few days ahead.
Same buses, different counters. If one site fails, try the next:
Via Warsaw
Warsaw Zachodnia Bus Station
Buses leave from Warszawa Zachodnia, usually once a day. The timetable says about 9 hours, longer than from Gdańsk. Border waiting time comes on top. Some coaches cross at Bezledy / Bagrationovsk, others go via Olsztyn and Grzechotki.
Worth it if you are already in Warsaw. Chopin Airport has a direct train to Warszawa Zachodnia. The station is large, so be there 30 minutes before departure and find the international stand first.

Via Vilnius
Vilnius
No direct bus since 19 November 2025. The Vilnius–Kaunas–Kaliningrad coaches are suspended, and the Kaliningrad bus station lists no departures to Lithuania.
From Vilnius you cross on foot or by car. Kybartai / Chernyshevskoye takes cars and pedestrians. Panemunė / Sovetsk is on foot only. Many EU-registered cars have been turned back at Kybartai since late September 2026.
If you need a bus, go via Poland: train or coach to Gdańsk, then the Gdańsk–Kaliningrad bus. That is the reliable way in from Lithuania right now.
Via Berlin
Berlin Central Bus Station (ZOB)
Buses leave from Berlin ZOB at Masuenallee. Ecolines has a night coach at 22:00, scheduled for about 19 hours, from €99.
Euro-Bilet lists several connections on the same route, some direct and some with a change. Prices there are often higher than on the Ecolines site, so check the operator before you pay twice for the same seat.
The border wait can add to both. The shorter way from Berlin is a flight to Gdańsk, then the Gdańsk bus.
Via Riga
Riga International Bus Station (Autoosta)
Buses leave from Riga Autoosta a few days a week, not daily. Ecolines schedules the ride at about 9.5 hours, from around €70. Your ticket may show a higher fare.
The usual crossing is Panemunė / Sovetsk, which is on foot only. You get off with your luggage, clear both controls, and board the coach waiting on the Russian side. Check the stops on the ticket before you count on that.

All international bus routes arrive at the central terminal (Avtovokzal).
Arriving at Kaliningrad Central Bus Station
International buses arrive at the Kaliningrad bus station (Avtovokzal), on Zheleznodorozhnaya 7, next to Yuzhny vokzal. From there you can continue by train or bus to Zelenogradsk, Svetlogorsk and the rest of the region.
Foreign Visa and Mastercard do not work in Russia. Bring some rubles for the first costs. Do not count on internet right after the border. Download offline maps and your hotel details before you leave.
Exchange desks sit just outside the station on Kalinina Square
